Like Pandora, iTunes Radio and iHeartRadio, Spotify Radio allows users to listen to 'stations' comprised of artists and genres, but not specific music tracks.

The new option will allow users to listen to tracks they select, just as they can on the desktop.

In addition to Spotify Free for tablets, the company is also rolling out a free streaming option for all devices, including mobile phones. This option, dubbed 'Spotify Shuffle,' the option will allow users to 'shuffle play' all playlists in their libraries and shuffle listen to any artist they choose.

This is a tradeoff with pure a la carte listening, because although it allows users access to a specific artist, album or playlist, it doesn't allow a direct choice to listen to a specific track. Ek said that Spotify is the first company to sign these types of streaming agreements for users around the world.
